A few interesting questions from EFF to RIAA…

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

The first 2 questions are:

  1. The RIAA has sued more than 20,000 music fans for file sharing, yet file sharing continues to rapidly increase both online and offline. When will you stop suing music fans?
  2. The RIAA has sued over 20,000 music fans for file sharing, who have on average paid a $3,750 settlement. That’s over $75,000,000. Has any money collected from your lawsuits gone to pay actual artists? Where’s all that money going?

wow… we really would like to hear RIAA answers… read the remaining questions at: http://www.eff.org/IP/faq/

Download Music Sales Up

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

Digital download sales are mantaining a growing trend: Nielsen SoundScan figures of the US market shows that digital album sales are gone up 125% compared to the same period last year, with single tracks up 77%. This still represent only about 5% of total album sales, but for the album market it marks a more than double increase compared to sales in the same period of 2005.
On the other side, overall sales of physical album dipped 4.2% during the first two quarter of the year.
That’s a drop of 12 million unit.
